URGENT: Halt the deportation of Dreamer Andrea Huerfano!
Andrea Huerfano belongs to our movement – and she is facing deportation. She is a Colombian native who moved with her family to the US in 2001. Her father sought political asylum. He passed away in 2005 – while his application was still under review. Andrea’s mother married a US citizen shortly after Andrea became a legal adult, leaving Andrea without legal status. Andrea is currently 24 years old.
On December 8th, Andrea went to pay a traffic ticket and was detained after her immigration status was looked into. We have since learned that there is an order of deportation in Andrea’s name, and that they may be ready to deport within the next few days. If she is deported, she will have a 10-year bar on re-entering the US and be separated from her family.
Andrea has been deeply involved in the community, serving as a volunteer for a number of organizations, including Florida Immigrant Coalition and the DREAM Team coalition while a student at Florida State University. She earned a national Fellowship to participate in PolitiCorps in 2008, where she spearheaded an effort to register more than 4,000 voters and educate low-income communities about criminal justice legislation in Oregon. She was considered one of the hardest-working and most promising Fellows in the program. At the end of the Fellowship she supported Get Out the Vote efforts in Ohio during the 2008 general election.
Andrea’s electoral work helped Obama and the members of his Cabinet get to their current positions, let’s hope that the administration recognizes her hard-work and belief in democracy. Send a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Assistant Secretary John Morton by going here.
Andrea lives in Congressman Robert Wexler’s district. Let him know that he needs to ask for deferred action on Andrea’s behalf by calling his Washington, DC office at(202) 225-3001 or emailing him through this link.
Pass it on.

Andrea, what has happened to you is without a doubt WRONG. Your situation is one of many that I have heard. My better half I and were driving from our home town in Kansas City back to Houston. In Oklahoma we were pulled over and detained by uniformed government officials that state , " WE ARE HERE TO SERVE AND PROTECT THE COMMUNITY" ,…. which in reality feels like they should be saying " WE ARE HERE TO PULL YOU OVER IF YOU APPEAR TO BE HISPANIC" .. It boiled down to both of us being arrested due to an illegal stop. Those police officers commited a crime and were not punished but we were thrown in jail, my better halfs status was looked into. ICE then put a detainer on her and was transferred to another jail and was in jail for about 1 week. She now is in process of deportation. We asked ourselves so many questions as to why this had to happen to us and so on and so forth, BUT all that did to us was slow her down.

She is staying strong and now seems to be campaigning for herself as she did for Obama. Her supporters are those people/organizations that she unselfishly devoted her time to. Maybe everything does happen for a reason. What I am trying to say is that I have read your story and I wish you luck.
Stay positive and remember " Thoughts become Things" so good luck , stay strong and my prayers go out to you and your family.
since drunk driving rigo from chicago was granted one more year to stay, she should be granted as well, so she might see the chance of being benefited from CIR.
i went to dreamact coalition in uiuc last week, and they were were doing petitions for rigo. i didn't know anything about him DUI until i read a newspaper. i just think he's a wrong person to represent (illegal) immigrant communities.
i hope best for her.
Regardless of how you feel about the DUI infraction, would you say the punishment fit the crime in that case?
I'm happy he got to stay and so will Andrea so far.
