Like most other groups supporting the DREAM Act across the country, we have taken up the rallying cry of “undocumented and unafraid.” And we take it seriously.
We have done our best to reach out to immigrant communities across our state and tell them that they do not have to live in fear. As activists have proven in the past few years pushing for the DREAM Act, the way forward is through daring, courageous action. Those actions have not been without risk, or flashes of fear. But in facing your fears, success not only lies ahead, but also empowerment.
One member of our Team, Viridiana, recently shared her story in a short video titled “Undocumented and Unafraid: A Portrait of an Activist” by Shar-Narne’ Flowers, recent graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Thank you for watching, and if you have ever been afraid, remember that silence will not protect you–only courage will.

Giving a person an opportunity to succeed based on his/her merit and not their legal status does not take away from others. On the contrary investment in educating youth is what will help this country succeed and be competitive in the global economy. These young people are not criminals, they were just born in a different country. Why spend so much energy and hate trying to stop bright minds from continuing on in the pursuit of a better tomorrow. I can tell you one thing, when the dream act passes you will really see what these smart and talented individuals have to offer and the only regret we’ll have is not having done it sooner.
