Yesterday, Seven of the Dream 30 parents were here in Washington D.C., to ask Members of Congress to step up for their children. For a week now they’ve been trying to get the support of senator Menendez, the only senator who is a member of the Hispanic Caucus. Instead of coming out in support, his office in D.C. had two of the mothers arrested.
We can’t really put into words what happened; watch the video and see for yourself. The Chief of Staff even got on the floor and tried to beg the mothers not to do it. “My son will be killed if he’s deported, I just want to hold him…”
1. It is VERY important that you make a phone call. We need all phone calls directed to Senator Menendez. The Senator is the most powerful member of congress when it comes to immigration reform. He is the only member of the Hispanic Caucus in the Senate. The Senate has ALREADY passed immigration reform; there is nothing the Senator loses by supporting Dreamers.
Call his D.C. office @ 202-224-4744
Call his New Jersey office @ 856-757-5353
Call his other New Jersey office @ 973-645-3030
“Hi, I was calling to ask why the member arrested the Dream moms yesterday, instead of helping them bring their kids home. I know the member supports Dreamers and immigration reform, but then why won’t he support Dreamers who are trying to come home? I watched the video and I am shocked the member would stoop so low to arrest grieving mothers!”
Add your own spin to it. Make it your own. “As a teacher/doctor/Dreamer/mother/etc. it is unacceptable to me for the senator to be acting this way. . . “ It is really easy, pretty much we need the member to take a position of support for these kids. Right now the member is saying he “can’t do anything.” In reality he can, the Senator just doesn’t want to. Why?
2. Report back. It would be very helpful for us if you report your call here and be sure to tag @Senator Menendez in your post. This way others will also know what’s going on (and hopefully call) as well as the Senator will know people are watching.
Thank you for all of the help, together we can bring these Dreamers home!
