I agree that same sex couples should be able to sponsor their foreign partners. However, this issue should be left to be dealt with at a later time. It would be better for gays to fight for recognition within the US first on a separate front, as it is being done now. Once gay couples are granted their deserved right to marry, then immigration laws can follow to allow for the sponsorship of foreign partners. If we want favorable immigration changes, it is crucial that all supportive groups remain with the DreamAct/Immigration reform movement and don't split into factions because of this issue.

Although I did read and understand your position I think that the commenter above is right in pointing out that the headline itself is not clear. I would consider changing it to Statement about Gay Partner Immigration "Dooming" Immigration Reform. Or something along those lines because people are skimmers and remember headlines.

That aside, thank you for writing this post. I don't want to be part of any movement that leaves people out particularly the people who are facing so many challenges already. I would add a discussion about class though. Just because.

I'm confused by your headline. Are you blaming gay families and our advocates for "dooming" immigration reform? Shouldn't the blame be placed on bigotry and bigoted people who think that all immigrants are heterosexual and that GLBT people whose families are divided by immigration status should shut up and remain divided? My daughter's two dads, one a US citizen and one a Spanish citizen, are legally married in Spain, yet their marriage is not recognized in the U.S. This has created enormous visa problems for our family. All families deserve to be united, not just some.
