b) Drivers License: No, please visit the Montana Driving website for more information.  Getting a license or ID in this state means that you must provide proof of legal status.

c) Scholarship/Funding: Undocumented students are able to apply for private scholarships. Visit MALDEF for a list of scholarships that do not require proof of citizenship, legal residency, or a social security number.

d) Pending Legislation: Please visit the Montana Legislative website to search for individual bills/legislation.  Below find a listing of recent immigration related bills:

  • LC 513 — Bill would have allowed any ‘peace officer’ to question and detain someone to find out if they are violating immigration laws.  This bill would have essentially been a 287(g) program.  “Current Bill Progress: Probably Dead
  • LC 2105 — Bill would have prevented any enforcement of Federal immigration laws.  “Current Bill Progress: Probably Dead
  • SB 381 — Bill requests that local officers be trained to police Federal immigration laws.  “Current Bill Progress: Probably Dead
  • SB 379 — Bill would have made it a crime to anyone who gives a ride to an undocumented immigrant, doing so would allow the officials to then confiscate the vehicle.  “Current Bill Progress: Probably Dead
  • SB 380 — Bill would prevent anyone who is undocumented from registering any sort of vehicle (including trailer etc.).  “Current Bill Progress: Probably Dead
