Design the 2010 Dream Act Postcard Now! Win Goodies, Showcase Your Work!
With the new year being just around the corner we thought it was time for some late spring cleaning, after sifting through the site we realized it was time to toss out the old corny postcard design and come up with a new and improved one. Just as that thought entered our heads we realized we lack any real design sense and then it hit us, why not let you design your own movement’s postcard?
So we are proud to announce the first ever (not last):
“I have a DREAM” Postcard Contest
The contest is simple, following the rules below, submit an entry with your design. The final five (5) designs will be put on the site for a vote and voila we have a new postcard. Winner will get some gifts ($ and a mystery phone call). Everyone leaves happy, except no one really leaves, we just come together and work harder for the Dream Act!
Timeline:
- All entries must be submitted by Monday, December 21st, 5pm PST (California time)
- Top 5 entries will be selected by Monday, December 28th.
- You will vote December 28th through December 31st, 5pm PST (California time)
- Winner will be crowned announced January 1st
Instructions:
- Theme: Dream Act, education, college, hard work, — run with it.
- Logo: Incorporate the DreamActivist/UWD logo into your work, it can be found here: www.dreamactivist.org/logo
- We prefer the postcard to be landscape.
- Artwork must be submitted with a 250 word composition explaining your work and why it should be picked as the official 2010 Dream Postcard.
- Design your art to be 4.25″x6.25″ at 300 dpi (1275 x 1875 px), and allow for at least 1/8″ along the edges where you won’t have any text or anything vital to the design. It’ll be 4″x6″ once it’s trimmed. So, don’t have any text or logos within 40 pixels of the edge (1/8″) and we should have no trouble trimming it.
- To double check if your postcard meets the above requirement, please check out www.overnightprints.com specs page.

- If you have any special circumstances please contact us for additional directions (admin@dreamactivist.org)

- By contributing art to the postcard contest, you are granting us permission to use it. Your art remains your property, you’re just loaning it to us.
- Please note, even if your work is not selected as the winner we will still publish it and it has the chance of being used as an image in future publications (posts, brochures etc.)
- All submissions may be posted to the website for everyone to see, only the top 5 will be open for voting.
Tips:
- Submit your entries early as if there is an issue we see right away we will give you a chance to fix and re-submit.
- Your 250word summary will have some weight on the final decision, not as much as the artwork but still some. Put some thought into it. Let us know who you are.
- If you are like some of us and you know you can’t design anything worthy but still want to be a part of the action then please help another way, send us a donation for this contest. All of the money received will be used to cover the costs and to purchase postcards to the campaign.

Hey this is super exciting! If only I could draw or use photoshop better
I just checked the Overnightprint website, and the files have to be in CMYK color mode in .PDF, .EPS, .TIF, or .JPG format.
JPG is a lossy format ,so if you're saving your Photoshop file as a JPG, save it only once at Maximum/12 Quality. Don't make any more changes to that JPG file; make changes only on your Photoshop file. Re-saving a JPG file causes the JPG image to become more "lossy".
Good luck, y'all.
