Results of Our Coming Out Thus Far!

So this whole idea of coming out undocumented as a community officially launched last Wednesday, and I’m sure you’re wondering how things are going so far. Maybe you’d like to see what’s been done and get some ideas. Perhaps you’d like some inspiration or need a little push to motivate you. Or maybe you just think all DREAMers are awesome and would like any excuse to read about them, especially when they end up in the New York Times. If any of these apply to you, then keep on reading!

Video: More on Napolitano’s DREAM support

You can see the exchange over the Senate Judiciary Committee, at the 50:15 mark or simply above (excuse the poor quality). While it is a simple remark in a committee meeting, we can highlight this moment as the first time that a member of the Obama administration publicly – and on the record – supported a specific legislative proposal to give legal status to people who are currently undocumented.

Durbin:

Could you tell me your opinion of the Dream Act?

NAPOLITANO: Yes, Senator.

As a governor of a border state, this is one of — this is one of those areas where everyone wants the immigration law enforced. We must enforce it. It’s part of our national sovereignty, among other things. On the other hand, we have to have the ability to deal with some of the human issues that arise here. And the one that you have identified is one of the most acute.

I supported the Dream Act when I was governor. I support it now. One of the most moving things I’ve been privileged to do as secretary is to administer the oath of citizenship to men and women in our military who have been serving in Iraq, who were not citizens, who have elected to become citizen. In a way, it kind of mirrors what you’re talking about in the Dream Act.

But it seems to me that the Dream Act is a good piece of legislation and a good idea.

So I understand "woot woot" great idea but they have been promoting this for 8 years!! That's insane, how many people have held to this possible law as hope only to be told it will be further examined next year after they graduate? I am a soon to be junior and if this goes on for even 3 more years without action that's MY life changed…and I can't go back in age to finaly benefit. Asides the problem that it's a legal truth that if highschool students remain here illegaly after their 18th and half birthday it will be they that will receive a huge penalty since the burden is now put into that person that willingly conceits their illegal status. What does that mean?- I will have to leave the country before graduation hence not obtaining my high school diploma unless I risk facing that penalty. ACTION is needed bc the next time they postpone it it will be MY life put on hold.
