On Tuesday we told you about Angel; a detainee at the Broward Detention Center since May 1st. Angel’s case is as shocking as they get, he was detained because he called 911 and the responding officers, who didn’t speak Spanish, thought he was playing a prank on them.

If you think getting detained for calling 911 is crazy well check this out, on July 13th Angel was taken to a medical specialist for pain he had developed. The doctor told him he needed emergency surgery for a Hernia. The doctor specifically told Angel that not getting this surgery could mean death; here is the note from the doctor:

Normally a patient gets to decide what happens to their body, but in this situation ICE denied Angel’s request for surgery and instead tried to deport him. It wasn’t until Angel’s embassy stepped in and said they wouldn’t accept him that ICE said they would allow for the surgery to go forward.

We need your help in telling both ICE and the Obama Administration that enough is enough. June of last year President Obama promised to stop the deportation of low-priority individuals and it just isn’t happening. Instead of releasing Angel ICE is telling us that the Broward Detention Center is a model facility; if this happens at the model facility then how do detainees at other facilities get treated?

On Tuesday, only after the Guatemalan embassy stepped in and refused to accept Angel did ICE agree to finally allow for him to have the surgery.
