Kat Stacks is her online persona and her real name is Andrea Herrera; she’s been detained in a Louisiana detention center for exactly 2-years today. She’s not only a DREAMer but as a minor she was also the victim of sex-trafficking. Despite all of this ICE is refusing to release her to the care of her mother and her 3-year old son.
Free Sex-Trafficking Victim Kat Stacks
When Andrea was just 14 she was kidnapped and forced into prostitution. During this ordeal she was really traumatized; she was constantly beaten, and even forced to have a mis-carriage at one point. At the age of 19 Andrea was finally freed; she found solace online where she formed the persona Kat Stacks, an online personality with 250,000 followers. An expert who testified on her behalf stated:
“…the persona, Kat Stacks, was a way for the Respondent to claim a little bit of the power that had been repeatedly taken away from her. It gave her a sense of empowerment and a sense of being able to control her own destiny.”
As soon as Andrea was detained her step-father, who is a citizen, filed change of status for her thinking that she would be able to fix her status that way. However, earlier this summer an immigration judge ruled against her for no reason other than her online personality:
“The Court finds that the Respondent’s behavior as an online persona is a significant negative equity. . To conclude, the Court finds that it is not in the best interests of the United States to grant adjustment of status to the Respondent and it will be denied as a matter of administrative discretion.”
There is no reason why Andrea should be detained. She is a as low-priority as they come and should be released immediately. Andrea has a 3-year old son she has not seen in a long time and would really appreciate your support!
