Can't Drive You Home

SB 146 (Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-MacAllen), may be moving: “Relating to the creation of the offense of unlawful transport of an undocumented person.”

Oh, Democrats. They’re so dependably pro-migrant, except when they’re not.

This bill unfairly criminalizes Texans from all walks of life simply for the people with whom they are friends and with whom they work. For mixed-status families and for mixed-status communities (oh wait…the United States is a mixed-status community), penalizing people for driving undocumented immigrants is an unprecedented penalty for a normal day-to-day activity.

Not only that…but who do you think is going to be getting pulled over? This opens the door, lays out the doormat, and lights the scented candle for racial profiling. Let me hear you say it with me- not. okay.

Allies, you are being criminalized for your friendships, relationships, and family ties.

I’ll say right now that I am a repeat offender. Like, a lot.

Stay tuned.

  1. Why don’t you illegals wake up and realize you cannot stay here. If you are illegal, you are not a Texan, you are an illegal. REPORT AN DEPORT NOW!

Well, then, you had better hope you don’t get pulled over now, huh? Unless you want to get arrested and charged with a crime, thus incurring the legal bills and, if convicted, a criminal record, that will most likely limit your education and employment options. Just sayin’.

Bravo Flavia, the authorities need urgently intensive education in sociology, ethics and anti-racism…to reform them. I would love to join you in the “Act Dream” cause. Let’s make together lots of educated noise next May 1st, 2011.
