So this whole idea of coming out undocumented as a community officially launched last Wednesday, and I’m sure you’re wondering how things are going so far. Maybe you’d like to see what’s been done and get some ideas. Perhaps you’d like some inspiration or need a little push to motivate you. DREAMIE of the Week: Gabe

Gabe, also known as ‘OriginalGabe’ in online circles, is our DREAMIE of the Week.

A small bio from his blog:

Left Mexico in 1989, at the age of seven, graduated high-school in 2000, got a bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering in 2007. Fighting for the DREAM Act so I can finally be allowed to be a member of the society in which I grew up. I also aspire to get both an MBA and a teaching credential.

Gabe has spent 20 years in this country–a country that still refuses to recognize his presence, talent and worth.

Twenty years have flown by. It would be bittersweet to have some resolution this year.

After graduating from college, Gabe has not given in to helplessness and despair. He is also not afraid of speaking to the media about the DREAM Act and helping out with workshops.

He single-handedly organized a DREAM Act graduation in San Jose within 5 days and got press to cover the event too. That’s some real dedication and skills.

In total we had 20 students in the San Jose DREAM class of 2009. We had a turn out of about 50 people and even had some local news papers and Univision come out to support us. I supposed that’s not bad for the first event I ever organized.
