Results of Our Coming Out Thus Far!

So this whole idea of coming out undocumented as a community officially launched last Wednesday, and I’m sure you’re wondering how things are going so far. Maybe you’d like to see what’s been done and get some ideas. Perhaps you’d like some inspiration or need a little push to motivate you. Or maybe you just think all DREAMers are awesome and would like any excuse to read about them, especially when they end up in the New York Times. If any of these apply to you, then keep on reading!

DreamActivist @ Netroots Nation – Four Perspectives from the Social Change Blogosphere

netrootsnation8671182.jpg

Piash and I will be attending Netroots Nations in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania this week on behalf of DreamActivist. I am participating in a pre-conference blogger summit, as well as the panel below, as a late addition since I didn’t think I was attending till last week.

Please join us:

Event: Netroots Nation Panel- Perspectives from the Social Change Blogosphere
“Case Studies from Civil Rights/Pro-Migrant Bloggers”
What: Convention
Host: Kety Esquivel
Start Time: Friday, August 14 at 4:30pm
End Time: Friday, August 14 at 5:45pm
Where: Room 311, David L. Lawrence Convention Center

Obviously, I am on the panel to talk about the DREAM Act and how we have been using new media to bring about social change for immigrants. I believe the subaltern can speak and should be encouraged to speak and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to narrate our stories, hard work and perseverance. I truly believe that it is best for us to speak out without fear of repercussions, rather than have someone speak for us. And I am pretty excited about being there since this is the first time I get to meet Dave Bennion (Change.org), who will be on the panel with me and whom we have been working with for over a year. My other fellow panelists are Kety Esquivel (NCLR, CrossLeft), Dee (Immigration Talk with a Mexican American), and Edmundo Rocha (Para Justicia Y Libertad).
