Would you believe it if we told you that the local Mayor of Montgomery, Alabama is actually claiming that all 13 undocumented immigrants are legal residents? Instead of coming out and apologizing, recognizing their blunders they instead have decided to cover it all up and claim that we are in fact documented. Amazing! All 12 undocumented immigrants still remain in jail. This marks their 2nd day in jail for a protest in which they all publicly declared their status and refused to leave until Sen. Beason agreed to stop the hateful rhetoric against the community. We know change won’t come easy. We know many of us, many of you, will need to put our lives on the line in order to get change. We also know we are dedicated to making it happen, the Obama administration can continue to lie to us, they tell us they aren’t deporting people like those arrested yet when no one is watching they put us into deportation proceedings. However when we take action publicly, like the 13 arrested on Tuesday, they deny we exist. The last week here in Alabama has been amazing, so many people have reached out to us to voice their support for what we are doing. Many others have tried to silence us recognizing the power a truly undocumented and unafraid community poses. It is now time for us to come out even more.
