Obama spoke lies at the NCLR conference the other day. He did his famous recycled speech about the importance of education and immigration so if you missed it, no worries! I am honestly tired of hearing the same things over and over again. Obama says he cannot bypass congress; however, their anti-immigrant state laws have bypassed federal law and still get through. Republicans are able to work together and get things done even if it’s to pass horrible and inhumane laws. Democrats can’t even provide some sort of relief. Obama says he cannot pass an executive order to end the deportations of all Dream Act eligible youth, but we all know he can. There have been executive orders before on other issues, it’s not like we are asking for something new. But of course, this is all a political game and Obama will look bad if he is helping end deportations. 2012 is just around the corner. I am tired of the bullsh*t lies he is trying to feed us.
In his speech he blames Republicans for not working with him because supposedly Democrats are with us. If I am not mistaken,Democrats couldn’t even pass the Dream Act when they were a majority. Democrats voted against it and some didn’t even bother voting at all. Democrats couldn’t even work together on this small step to immigration equality. Both Republicans and Democrats are to blame. Immigrant youth have been wanting to dance with Obama on this immigration issue since he was elected but no change has happened. Obama, the Democrat, has deported more people than Bush the Republican.
Pointing fingers and passing around the blame needs to stop! These are our lives you are playing with. These are real loving families you are separating.
Many Obama believers are saying he is not deporting anyone, but he is. Andy Mathe was deported last week. A family who has been seeking asylum for over four years due to violence and threats back home in South Africa. Did the Obama administration care? no. Did they do anything? no. There was a plea all over the country from supporters. We called and faxed and petitioned and tweeted till we couldn’t anymore. Obama says he understands our struggles and hardships when it comes to deportations but I don’t see how. There is no way Obama understands the frustration because at the end of the day, Sasha and Malia are safe and sound at home with him, while Hope has no idea what will happen to Andy now.
Here in New York, Julio is at risk of deportation due to our broken immigration system. If sent back he will face violence, once again, because of his sexual orientation. If you came out to Julio’s rally on Tuesday, thank you. This means a lot to Julio, to us and especially to me. As a fellow undocumented youth I too can be deported and knowing that there is support and help out there is one of the most gratifying things ever. If you or anyone you know is in the deportation proceedings please email us at info@nysylc.org Now, I need your help to stop Julio’s deportation. If you haven’t signed his petition, please sign it and share it! We need as much help as we can get. Call the numbers on the petition as well. Julio has a court case coming up in August and he needs our support.

Angy

Today is the 10th year anniversary of the DREAM Act.
In order to get relected, Obama needs the votes of the white electorate. He knows that blacks and
latinos usually vote democrat anyway, so he knows that he already has their votes since they never tend to vote republican. It is no accident that don’t ask don’t tell passed and the dream act did not.
I hate to play devil’s advocate on this subject, but I do believe in the president when he says that he wants an immigration reform. I don’t think he is lying, I do think he has not done enough, actually I don’t think he has done much (if anything at all)… But if you look at the past 3 years the democrats have suffer to pass EVERYTHING. As Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was amazing, sadly August 25, 2009 happened, and the senate lost the super majority and they didn’t just lose one senator, but we lost THE SENATOR. If there was someone in congress that could have pushed for a reform that was Ted Kennedy.
But I understand these are just excuses, I know there are many more things that the president can do, and should do, but I seriously do not believe that we could do better with a republican president in 2012. I support your cause, I am not a dreamer myself, but I believe in the dream.
I wonder how this Super Congress will affect things from now own.
In order to get elected, Obama promised every group what they wanted to hear.Unfortunately, Comprehensive Immigration Reform is not on the minds of the electorate. The people that Obama needs to reach in order to get reelected are the white working class people whose votes could go either way. These are the people that feel threatned by undocumented immigrants. They may be sympathetic to the dreamers but they do not want to give them anything. I think that a form of the Dream Act will pass but major changes will be made. These changes would include lowering the maximum age from 30 to 25. Require that a bachelors degree or full term of military enlistment be completed and that once becoming citizens, dreamers cannot sponsor any family members, including their parents for legal residence in the US.
