STUDENTS TO EMBARK ON A 540 MILE BIKE RIDE FROM UC BERKELEY TO UCLA

STUDENTS TO LEGISLATORS: PASS THE DREAM ACT NOW!!

STUDENTS TO THE COMMUNITY: SPONSOR US AS WE FUND-RAISE FOR AB 540 SCHOLARSHIPS

WHO: Students from various California colleges and universities as well as out of state
students, representing their respective organizations including: UC Berkeley (REACH); UC
Santa Cruz (SIN); San Francisco State University (IDEAS); Mount San Antonio College;
UC Davis (SPEAK), De Anza College, UC Los Angeles (IDEAS); Riverside Community
College (SAFE); Santa Ana College; University of New Mexico; and regions such as
Pomona; La Puente; Salinas; Los Angeles and Riverside.

WHAT: 34 Students will embark on a 540 mile bike ride from UC Berkeley to UCLA as
part of the 2nd Annual California Tour de Dreams bike ride. Serving two purposes, Tour de
Dreams calls on legislators to push for the passage of the Development Relief and Education
for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act H.R. 1751, S. 729) as a stand- alone bill, as well as calls
on the community to help create college scholarships for underrepresented and historically
marginalized students via sponsorship. With nine scheduled stops along the way, Tour de
Dreams will be holding a press conference at various locations.

WHY: Due to legislators inability to act and push for the passage of the DREAM Act as a
stand-alone bill, students have created yet another creative way to call attention to this very
important issue. An estimated 65, 000 undocumented students graduate from high school
annually in the United States while other graduate from colleges and universities unable to
exercise their degrees and contributing to the economy of the only country they know as
home. Additionally, the cost of a college education in California has dramatically risen and
non-financial aid eligible students need the help of their community to continue their college
education. This is more than a bike-ride; it is a political movement in which students wish to
raise awareness of education as a human right!

WHEN: Friday August, 13- Saturday August 21, 2010.
