In September we urged all of you to host actions in support of the United We Dream Back to School Dream Act Week of Action and you responded with an amazing 120 actions in over 30 states.   You hosted everything from movie screenings in Montana, to soccer games in caps and gowns in Kansas, a mock classroom in Florida and so much more.  We hope it is with that same excitement and courage that you take on this next challenge.

From Monday February 22nd to Saturday February 27th, the United We Dream Network, will be hosting a Week of Action in support of the Dream Act and just and humane immigration reform.

We will be working closely with each of our affiliates and all of you who want to be involved in hosting actions all through-out the week. We will work to bridge our offline communities with our online communities with the re-launch of DreamActivist.org on February 22nd. We will work to unite all of our communities with a national call on Wednesday, February 23rd. Of course no week of action would be complete without our legislators hearing from us, and so on Friday we will be helping all of you meet with your members of congress and explain to them why we cannot wait any longer for real reform.

In 1965, African Americans marched demanding voting rights, forty five years later, four brave undocumented students have embarked in a 1,500 mile walk from the Miami Freedom Tower to the U.S. Capitol to “tell the world that the present is unbearable . . . living in fear – living in the shadows, is very cold.”  We call on all Dreamers to stand in solidarity with Felipe, Carlos, Gaby and Juan and plan actions in support of them on Thursday, February 25th and walks and marches in support of the Trail on Saturday the 27th.

In 2010, United We Dream is committed to continue developing leadership among immigrant youth, building strong local and state DREAM organizations, and advancing the vision of the DREAM Generation, consisting of the millions of Americans who have grown up without legal status but are ready to be judged by the content of their character.   We can no longer afford to sit silently while someone else advocates for us.  We need to stand up together as a generation of New Americans committed to fairness, equality, and empowerment for all, immigrants and citizens alike.  Even if you have never organized an event or action before, please sign up to hear from one of our organizing coaches.   Undocumented youth around the country are ready to help you build a movement in your city.
