EPIC FAIL: MN Tea-Party Sabotaged

Today as I opened my inbox and my social media accounts I was intrigued to read the following words lined up together: Tea-Baggers PUNK’D.

As I sorted through several blogs and youtube clips I came to see what happened at an Anti-Immigrant Tea Party held on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol a couple days ago. Several concerned citizens spoke out about the harm and evils that immigration supposedly brings to the United States. It was nothing short of the usual: insults, radical attendees, violence, and extreme statements from speakers.

Yup, seems like the usual anti-immigrant rally for the most part, except that a young man by the name of “Robert Erickson” somehow managed to get on the list of speakers and give his concerns about immigrants his community. From the beginning one could predict that Erickson’s speech was leading to the usual immigrant bashing, yet, after a couple of minutes his speech took a sharp turn and brought about some satire that many of the tea-bag participants either did not acknowledge or were too slow to comprehend.

“We see them [immigrants] involved in massive theft, in murder, and bringing diseases like smallpox, which is responsible for the death of millions of Americans.  These aren’t new problems though, they have been going on for hundreds of years, and continue to this day….”

“…Lets send these European immigrants back where they came from!  I don’t care if they are Polish, Irish, English, Italian, or Norwegian!  European immigrants are responsible for the most violent and heinus crimes in the history of the world, including genocide and slavery!  “

That is right, Erickson hoped over the Latino bashing and went ahead to call out all the colonizers of Minnesota who robbed the natives from their land: illegal immigrants. Now, wether this was a prepared stunt or sabotage its yet to be determined, however, many pro-migrant blogs are citing this as a massive tea-party FAIL since some of the participants went ahead to shout with Mr. Erickson “Columbus GO HOME!”

Does anybody else see the irony in this?

Maybe this is the way to get the point across, to get people to shout out things that they don’t fully grasp at their own rallies and eventually get them to even chant “Go DREAM Act” and call them out on it.

Who knows?! A big shout-out goes out to those who showed some immigrant solidarity at this event -which from my understanding included several students.

Check out the video below to see Erickson’s full speech, and to leave you on another surprising note here is a quote from one of the reports on the rally:

“In conversation with members of Minnesotans Seeking Immigration Reform, the activists repeatedly pointed out that all non-native people in Minnesota are illegal immigrants–” Twin Cities Indy Media

I guess that United States citizen or not, if you’re not native to Minnesota its in your best interest to get out amigo!
