ALIPAC challenges DREAM movement, help us respond!
October 11, 2009 in Action Alert by United We Dream Network
William Gheen, founder of ALIPAC, sent a message to his supporters (and to us), today. After spewing out his usual hate towards our supporters at America’s Voice, matt.org, NCLR, LULAC, and MALDEF; Willy picks on the new kid in town, the Dreamers:
Our biggest competitor and the current leader out of all of the pro/con groups are the Dream Act Amnesty activists with their large financial budget. While ALIPAC is kicking their tails on Twitter, they are ahead of us on Myspace with 5,569 supporters and 43,070 people in support of their cause on Facebook!
While we are not that worried about their lead on Myspace, since it is a declining form of social media due to mass migrations to Twitter and Facebook, we will not allow these Amnesty supporters to prevail over ALIPAC in any realm!
Oh, the hilarity! First off, thanks for the endorsement. Is there a “Rookie of the Year” award for immigration orgs and if so where do we pick it up?
Second, the loose use of the term “amnesty” to refer to the earned paths to legalization that we advocate. It is repetitive, but at least he can spell it. No amnety. No Amensty. No amnesty!
Thirdly, William is a wily guy, making it seem that the Dreamers are the big-money interest in this fight. Now, we firmly believe that if we were working on a real budget, creeps like Gheen would not have a shot at framing this debate about what’s the way to go on immigration. After all, in creating his “Americans for Legal Immigration” PAC, he stole what every American wants – a viable way for people to immigrate legally – and turned into a forum for hate with no accountability and little space for facts to get in the way of his opinion.
Can you help us fight back? It’s time to add strength in numbers and show our opponents that things will be different this year. Please get as many of your friends as possible to join our campaign. Here’s how to connect:
- Add DreamActivist on Facebook (ALIPAC wants to reach 50k by the end of the year, can you help us get to 100k before the end of November?!?
- Follow us on Twitter
- Friend us on MySpace
- See us on YouTube
- Join the conversation at DAP
DreamActivist and UWD are soon going to be unveiling new plans about how our organizing strength will grow in the next few months. Some of this comes thanks to a first-ever for the Dreamer-led movement: funding for full-time staff and action-oriented software to increase our reach. But most of our future strength comes from something Gheen can never aspire to have: full knowledge in thousands of students’ hearts and minds that we are fighting for justice, equality, and what’s best for the American people.
Put that on the next email, Gheen.
Can’t stop, won’t stop!! Let’s go Dreamers!
