Dream Act Rally in Tulsa: A Path to Citizenship for Immigrant Achievers
Tulsa, Oklahoma (September 29, 2009) On Saturday, October 3, 2009, the Tulsa Community College Hispanic Student Association and theGreater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a rally in Support of the DREAM Act at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 8730 E. Skelly Drive from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Dr. Ric Baser, Tulsa Community College Vice President for Academic Affairs, will offer a keynote speech in support of the DREAM Act. Other notable speakers including OU professor Rodger Randle; Executive Director of the Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Francisco Trevino; and current TCC regent, Thalia Shaull will also present remarks.
The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) is a proposed federal legislation that would allow undocumented students who came to the U.S. at age fifteen or younger to be granted a conditional permanent resident status of six years upon graduating from a high school or being accepted to a college in the U.S. Upon completion of a two-year degree, two years of a four-year degree, or two years of military service, DREAM Act participants would then be eligible for unconditional permanent resident status. An estimated 65,000 students would be helped by this bill.
