Chicago – 2nd Annual DREAM-a-thon – August 29th

August 28, 2009 in Events by Mohammad

FYSH (Fighting Youth Shouting Out for Humanity) of KRCC (Korean American Resource & Cultural Center) is hosting their 2nd Annual DREAM-a-thon on August 29th. A 1.5 mile fund raising walk/run, the DREAM-a-thon will raise money for the Dream Scholarship and raise awareness for the DREAM Act.

Re-introduced on March 26 of this year by Senator Durbin of IL, the DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act gives eligible undocumented students the opportunity to pursue a higher education and pave a way to legal status. The starting point will be at the Legion Park fountain on the corner of N. Lincoln and W. Peterson Ave. and the trail runs down to River Park, with the finish line located on the field around W. Argyle and N. Francisco.

Participants will be provided meals after the walk/run as part of their entry fee ($8 for youth 20 years and younger, $20 for adults 21 years and older) and will hear from speakers affected by and working on the DREAM Act.  Afterward, FYSH is having various park games and activities!  So come, walk, run, eat, play, and have fun!
