Dream Graduations from Coast to Coast

On Tuesday June 23, 2009 United We Dream coalition members will be holding graduation ceremonies from coast to coast. The main event will be in Washington D.C., with solidarity events taking place all across the country.

We expect over 500 students to attend the national graduation.

Arizona

A local event will be hosted by CADENA (http://dreamactaz.org) and students at Arizona State University.

Meet at St. Mathews Church, 1 mile away from Capitol at 5pm.

Come dressed in cap and gown, bring extras if you have them!!

Press conference on stairs at the West Steps of the Capitol, at 11 o’clock (Denver Colorado). Everyone is to wear their caps and gowns.

Florida

SWER (Students Working for Equal Rights) will host a solidarity action with the national effort on Tuesday by setting up a full classroom outside in the courtyard of Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus that is enclosed in “DO NOT ENTER” tape while SWER leaders, DREAMers, and Student Government Presidents from various campuses speak to the press about the obstacles DREAMers face in achieving higher education degrees and why there is a crucial need to PASS THE DREAM ACT NOW!

This action will be taking place at 2PM in front of the Student Life Department.

Kentucky

Massachusetts

No local event scheduled, however students from the Student Immigrant Movement (SIM) will be riding a bus to the D.C. event, and so rides are available. Montana

Patricia, our regional representative in Montana, will be hosting a teach-in at a youth camp. The students will learn about the DREAM Act and what they can do to help their peers. For details and to get involved in Montana, please contact Tricia@dreamactivist.org

New Jersey

On the 23rd between 4:00 and 5:00 pm we will hold a solidarity event in Hackensack, New Jersey at Johnson Memorial Park at the corner of River Street and Cedar Lane/E. Anderson Street (490 River Street, Hackensack, NJ).

The Coalition for College Access (C4CA) and Adelante Education Coalition will be hosting a mock graduation outside of Sen. Kay Hagan’s office at 5PM in Greensboro (701 Green Valley Rd; Suite 201, Greensboro, NC 27408) on June 23rd.

The University Leadership Initiative (ULI) will be bringing students to the National D.C. Graduation, if you would like to participate please contact them or register HERE and you will be contacted.

DREAM Act Awareness Day Rally — Houston Dream Coalition:
When: Tuesday June 23rd 3:30p.m.
Where: Mason Park Houston, TX (75th and Tipps)
Why: Support the National Day of Action for the DREAM Act
Visuals: If you can please wear your cap and gown to symbolize all the undocumented students graduating from high school and college

Help us get the word out about the graduation, dedicate a blog post to it, forward this E-Mail to your friends and family, update your facebook status, let your myspace friends know, twitter us and all that other fun jazz!!

Legislative Visits


Legislative visits will take place between 2 and 5pm on the 23rd. We are asking that everyone schedule their own visits, however email us (omedina@nclr.org) what those visits are so that we can keep track and know who is being seen and who still needs to be targated.
