Minutemen for the DREAM Act

March 30, 2009 in News Article by Administrator

“They need to be brought out of the shadows. They need to be documented and swear an oath to become a citizen. If they do that, then by all means they deserve the opportunity that anyone else has.”
-Chris Simcox, Minutemen President

According to an article in the Denver Daily, President of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, which is adamantly set against illegal immigration, isn’t particularly against the DREAM Act:

Simcox said if the bill focuses only on the child, and doesn’t have any extra provisions like allowing the student’s family a pathway to citizenship as well, then, depending on the bill’s language, he isn’t necessarily against it.

Chris Simcox is no hero. But on the DREAM Act, he at least seems to be a voice of reason among the small number of extremists that pretend to speak for the American people.

We wonder if the president of the Minutemen–Chris Simcox–can see that the DREAM Act is a reasonable piece of legislation, where does it put ‘immigration reform’ groups such as FAIR, NumbersUSA and ALIPAC who do anything they can to oppose immigrant youth and just-humane immigration reform in this country?

One should read how the anti-immigration forces–the John Tanton Network of hate–are now trying to brand themselves as ‘Progressives for Immigration Reform’ to woo environmentalists.

Most Americans are rational and logical. When we take the time to explain all the stipulations of the DREAM Act and why it is necessary for us to pass it, we do change minds and opinions in our favor. Take the time today to explain the new bill to a friend. Hold a community hearing at your college and invite everyone you can. Go to your city council, associated students and college boards and get a resolution passed. Get people to sign the petition with their testament of support.
