Last June 23rd, things got moving. We synchronized Dream Act Graduation Day all over the country: The US Capitol in Washington DC, Los Angeles City Hall, St. Matthews Church in Arizona, San Jose City Hall, the Colorado State Capitol, Miami Dade College, St. Ann’s Church in Chicago, St. Mary’s Church in Indianapolis, Johnson Memorial Park in New Jersey, Senator Hagan’s office in Greensboro (NC), Mason Park in Houston, and even a campsite in Montana heard the message of Dreamers looking for social change. We undeniably would have had events in places like Massachusetts, Wisconsin, and New York – but we decided to make our presence known specially loud in Washington, DC.
That day, 500 Dreamers from all over the country came to Washington, DC and brought their message of hope, education and service to our country to the offices of their congressional representatives. This time, we are going back to school to let Congress know we are part of the communities they represent.
Please join the United We Dream Network in standing up for undocumented students four weeks for now. Since our graduation, we have stood up and slowed down deportations. On September 23rd, thousands of students all over the country will rise together and declare that it is Back to School DREAM ACT Day of Action.
Register your action here: http://dreamactivist.org/backtoschool
The DREAM Act, a piece of legislation that would create a path to legal status through college education or military service for undocumented youth who have been in this country since an early age, was first introduced in 2001. Waiting for its passage has meant a lot of pain and uncertainty for undocumented students, but it has also seen them create and organize in unprecedented ways. The community that started this website is one of those examples, as is each one of those groups of people that organized the actions of last June and the many more we will have next month.
In the next days and weeks, we will have more advice about how to move forward, and a place to register your local events. Things are moving quick for Dream student organizing all over the country, and we have some big things coming up. In the next few weeks, United We Dream will begin its transition towards a full-fledged organization by introducing its newly-hired national coordinator, DreamActivist will relaunch with a brand-new design and new features, and immigrant youth will once again stand up to call for passage of the DREAM Act and a better, more just, more human immigration policy in this country.
Please help us get the ball rolling by Facebooking, Digging, and emailing this post. Now more than ever: don’t just dream, ACT!

I am a CSUN Alumni and currently a GRAD student and i know it is very hard for many students out there that are working really hard and to get somewhere in life, but unfortunatly they Can't because of they legal situation. I support the DREAM Act and i really hope that it passes. This will allow many great students to use their degree and make their dreams come true!

oh man if the dream act were to get passed, that would make my life so much better…id be able to drive, get a real job, get an ID, get federal financial aid and cal grants for cal statela and allow me to become a police officer when the time comes. there is so much that we are not allowed to have simply because we were brought here without choice when we were little kids….
-The Dream Act-
Am I Alone?
Are you a human? Do you feel pain? Do you have a dream, but cannot act to it? Then I am sure you will find this interesting. I am not asking for pity or an unemployment check, but simply a chance to show the world what I am made of. All I need is a chance to paint my name all over the sky, where my reality and my future remain unappreciated. My future and reality patiently wait for that soul who will unleash them and who will allow me to become the respectable figure I aspire to be for my community.
Eight years ago I found myself wrapped into a wonderful dream full of opportunities and motivations that made me feel as if I were a “real person”. While attending to high school an amazing scholarship, Upward Bound at Notre Dame, knocked on my door. Along with other students who were also candidates for it, I attended to a few information meetings about the great impact the scholarship would take on my life. This would allow me to apply all my skills and ambitions on to something productive in life, as a real person would, and become an example for future generations in my family.
Seriously, what is blocking your mind? Why can you not see reality the way I see it? Why will you not admit that you need me? I never asked to be undocumented and it was not my choice. It is not what I want to be for the rest of my life. I want to be a “real person.” I want you to see that I am not that Illiterate animal that I have been portrayed as. I need you to understand that if you helped me, you will only receive positive outcomes in return or else I would not be asking to be educated.
I saw my dream become the worst of my nightmares as I held the application form and noticed the SSN blank space where that magic nine digit number goes. This now nightmare shadows me everywhere degrading my self-being, and makes me feel as if I were an alien from out of space who is not eligible for opportunities available for human race.
It is absurd to think that even if a person would find a way to accomplish a degree they will be confronted and stopped for lacking that magic nine digit number, yet anywhere in the world that degree would be recognized. Come on let’s get real already. We are the U.S.A. A multiracial country like it or not and that’s what makes it such a successful nation.
I am strong, intelligent and brave. I believe in myself, and even though my dream seemed shut down, there will be a way for me to shine, and outshine for that matter, those who once thought I was incompetent. The Dream Act is my hope. Therefore I am now asking if I am alone, if I am really the only one who is going through such a dramatic and unfair situation. I know am not, so let’s make ourselves be heard. Let’s shout out to our community that more than a problem we are a necessity.
SUPPORT THE DREAM ACT!!!
