10 Face Trial In Alabama – Feb. 27th

Do you remember the 13 arrested in Alabama this past November? Well now 10 of  the 13 are facing trial in Alabama on February 27th.

All 10, Alma, Martin, Belem, Catalina, Nico, Krsna, Jaime, Fernanda, Mysia and Cynthia are ready to get back to Alabama to continue to fight and show the real power of immigrants.  Now we need your help to make sure we can get them all to Alabama; if you can please donate $10 to help get the Alabama 10 to trial.

The 13 were arrested in November after delivering a letter to Sen. Beason, the main sponsor of the Alabama hate bill. Instead of responding to their letter the Alabama State Senator had all 13 undocumented immigrants arrested. The organizing didn’t stop there. Through the cracks in their cells they were able to gather the testimonies of other undocumented immigrants detained and awaiting deportation. Once outside we were able to make connection with the families of those detained and offer support. In this way, those arrested, were able to lead by example and show us all how important it is to stay unified and organize no matter what the situation.

And right now the Alabama 10 needs your help; please donate $10 to help the bunch get to trial.

Actions like the one in Alabama are crucial to our organizing work in many ways. As an undocumented community we are taught, since a very young age, to always be afraid. To be afraid of the police because they could deport us. To be afraid of immigration because they will deport you. We were taught to never tell anyone about our status because (you fill in the gap)And now that we are a bit older and can actually test the waters we are finding out that a lot of what we were taught was incorrect. It turns out you can fight against a deportation and win. It turns out you can risk coming out and be safe. That’s the power of our work, we are re-defining the rules to make sure that, as a community, we come out on top.  Support our work and the need to escalate by donating $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund.

Hopefully it is clear by now that we do not like to tell others what to do, rather we like to show you what is possible and let you decide how big of a risk you want to take.  We know we have safety in numbers, whether it be us working in numbers or just knowing that any one of us if just one text message away from help. That’s how we can win as an immigrant community and take the power back.

Our fundraising goal for the month of February is to raise $2,000 for the Undocumented Bail Fund.  This fund contributes to a large part of our work. Your donations will help future DREAMers get out of jail in addition to helping the Alabama 13 get to trial. If you can please donate $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund.
